   Here is website from Purdue University (PDF Format) that discusses the basic of riding your first dressage test. The layout of the ring is in Page 2 (letters on the side of the ring included) with a detailed description of each of the movements. I hope this is of assistance to you. Best wishes

   If its the Lower levels you'll use the smaller arena…its not bad at all just practice in you arena at home…you really needn't worry about letters rather than the arena as a whole…also sometimes they let you have people call out the test to you

   I had an awfully hard time memorizing them too, when I started. At lower levels, you only need to know the basics: AKEHCMBFX. (All King Edward's Horses Can Make Big Fences [e]Xceptionally.)

   At the higher levels, you need to know them all. The letters around the edge are: AKVESHCMRBPF (All King Victor's Expensive Show Horses Can Make Regal Barristers Place Fantastically.) And centre line: DLXIG (Dagmar Loves [e]Xperiencing Irish Galway).
