But what I want to know is when approaching a jump do I sit back in case my pretty pony refuses and if I do keep folded I may fall off even do I do grip in with my legs. What to do, any advice?

If your pony is refusing, as you approach the jump, sit up and drive her forward with your seat and legs. I’ve had several green horses where this was necessary. Stay up in galloping position on the long gallops, get in jumping position over the actual jump, but RIDE her to the jump to make her realize you really want her to jump it.

Hello,

I have been riding for about eleven years now mainly dressage but the tides are turning. I’m getting very interested in the cross-country aspect of riding. I have an amazing Welsh pony at 13 hands that just cleared a four foot fence for me and I’m starting to think we are both getting a little bored of ring riding.

What websites, books, personal knowledge…etc, do you know about eventing/cross-country riding? Anything is helpful either then contact a local barn. Thanks!

One of the best and least expensive ways to learn is to go volunteer at an event. find a farm in your area that hosts eventing shows and sign up to be a volunteer. you’ll learn all about the rules and how it works and its a lot of fun. Also check out this website to get some more info.
