Show Jumping | Equestrian Goods - Part 3
payday loans

I am entering a show on June 9th in the jumper division with my horse Dorothy. She needs to get a little more in shape, and I need to prepare her for "scary jumps". She has never showed before, and is not really "trained" in jumping, but knows how. Please Help! I need to know some ways to get her in shape and prepared for spooky jumps!
I meant JULY 9TH

If you mean JULY 9th, then you should ride her everyday, in english. Ride for about an hour. Practice jumping every day as well. She'll be trained in no time. A boy in my 4-H club started jumping 2 weeks after he learned, and he did great at the show. It was also his first show. Goodluck!
If you seriously meant June 9th, sorry, but its June 15th. :]

Any links to jumping terms and training descriptions could help too. I don't plan on learning to jump, but I want a basic understanding of the sport and training concepts. I've had english flat lessons in the past, but now I ride western mostly but I just got a horse that used to jump and I'd like to get some idea of how he might have been trained so I can better understand his movements and previous training.

Your best bet is to find a huntseat trainer and take lessons from him/her for a while. They can set up a jump or two for you to get the feel of it. IF this horse has coursed in the past, he'll know how to pace himself while you get the feel of it. The advantages of finding a trainer in your area is that they most probably will allow you to tag along to their shows and watch.

Back in the 1970's I bought a 9 yr old AQHA Appendix gelding that I'd only seen hacked western. He was a rotten western trail horse and not collected enough to be a western pleasure horse, but as I took him over some ground poles (Still tacked up western.), he dropped his head and never missed a beat. I quickly went back to the barn and grabbed my huntseat saddle and retacked him up. To date he was the BEST fence horse I've ever owned! You'd point him at a jump and he headed right for it! At that time I was schooling my 8 yr old gelding who was green over fences and it was a nice change to have a horse not rush a fence or try to find a way out of jumping a fence.

Best of luck!

when nbc shows track and field they never show the long jumping only the people who do all the running events and the high jump. plus they never show the event where you throw that big ball across the field.

I don’t think the finals of those events have happened yet, and they don’t show the qualifying rounds much. They aren’t totally pro american because they showed the women’s marathon for 2 1/2 hours and the best American got 33rd. I think they look for sports america is good at and sports america enjoys watching. I guess synchronized diving is more fun to watch than handball in America. Maybe it’s just me but i didn’t hear anything about whether or not the Spain-USA basketball was on NBC and I missed it. Big ball across the Field is called shot put if you want to look up results. Those events might be on CNBC or the USA network. Go USA!

I would prefer 1 on the ps2/ps3 but a windows version is ok. I am also wondering if anyone knows when a ps3 horse show jumping game willl be realeased >

Sorry, no one seems to know and unfortunately I don't either. I just hate seeing questions sit out here for days unanswered! I hope you've figured it out successfully!

I am on Mountain Standard time, (no daylight savings time) which is 3 hours behind New York’s time if you didn’t know and I was wondering what time the final round of show jumping would be on because I really want to see it. I missed it today because I turned on the TV and it was ending but they said the final round is tomorrow. Thank you!!!

I might be to late, but if you are in Canada, CBC has it on their website that you can watch live

Sorry, if this doesnt help very much. I think its also live on TV on CBC BOld, and NBC

there are countless of millions of famous race horses but i've never heard of famous show jumping horses. could anyone name a few (like five)? or atleast name the most famous one.

Gem Twist, Idle Dice, Calypso, Touch of Class, Milton, Big Ben, Nautical, The Natural, For the Moment ( aka "fred" in the barn) Rhum IV, The Governor, Judgement, Abdullah, Galoubet, Miss Budweiser, Holystone, Jet Run, Heisman, VIP, Daydream, South Pacific….. I could go on with this list forever, there are so many names.

I have got a 14.3hh wormblood x welsh cob would he be alright to do show jumping?

Perfectly fine– like the other person said, there was a horse in americas only 3 star event that was jumping over 5 feet up and over 5 feet length wise– his name is theodore ridden by karen o'conner….

I got some really good advice the other day about bits and what I would use for show jumping and/or hunt seat (also including cross country) The lady said a number a bits but I only remember a few, she said that an egg butt, or a snaffle bit would work too. I was really looking into a Wonder Bit but wanted some more advice on it, any info you have would be appreciated. Thanks Guys!

I’ve never heard of a Wonder Bit. If you’re planning on doing Hunters, go with a standard Dee snaffle. Other possibilities would be a full cheek snaffle, eggbutt or loose ring. I prefer the loose-ring on my jumper but try to stay traditional and use the dee on my hunter. And I use a french-link bit regardless of what the outside shape is. They’re gentle but effective.

I love Show Jumping! And, I have heard great things about treeless saddles. I was wondering what type of treeless saddle would be best for jumping? I have a narrow-backed TB that moves quick and I need a secure saddle. Any suggestions?

I am on my second Barefoot treeless saddle and have been using them for 4 years now.

There is only one brand of treeless saddle that I have tried that would be acceptable for show jumping. And…. it's very very expensive! It's been almost 20 years since i tried one and the company was very new. At the time their saddles were underside like a soft leather pad wrapped around the horse with little wither clearance and none for the spine. I'm sure they've improved by now. :-)) They do have several models for show jumping and their saddles look almost normal and are very close contact. If you can afford it, worth a test ride. http://ansursaddle.com/store/index.php?act=viewAllProducts

I just thought of another that my friend tried. She said is was very comfortable, but didn't clear her horses withers. The price and quality is good! http://www.hidalgo-sattel.com/index.php/cat/c4_Jumping-Saddle.html
This is worth a try!!

Otherwise, you need to search for a treeless that specifically states a model for jumping. The stability of a treeless is not as good and a breast collar is a must for high fences. since you have so much weight in the stirrups when going over fences, the bars must have the weight spread evenly as not to irritate the horse! I know here in Europe, judges are curious about new saddles and riders more open to them.

Another option you have is a flexible tree saddle. I have a Vaquero saddle like this… feels like a normal one, but with give . The company makes a very good dressage saddle and is working on western and jumping models.

GL I hope this helps

I would love to ride in olympics in show jumping or eventing I love to jump and I feel that I am going no where in my show career. I would love to show but I really don’t have to money to do it. How would I go about get help with it?

Equestrian really is a sport that needs adequate funding to get you started. Firstly though you need a good horse to ride (whether it be yours or somebody elses) and to start to attend competitions. Next comes and instructor - a good one who knows their stuff! I know you may be on a limited budget but try to make a deal with mum/dad or pick up more work hours - if showjumping is what you really want to do. After you start attending some competitions (and hopefully doing well!) you will probably start to pick up prizes/prize money that may assist you with your horse/riding. From then on you could start to seek out sponsorship, which would help cover your costs and enable you to travel more widely to shows. It sounds so simple in words, but it is very very very difficult, remember all of this takes years, and to be at Olympic level takes a lifetime. I am a showjumper and I rely 99.9% on mum and dad. All of my family ride (from track to dressage) and my dad is very supportive and covers the costs. I am very lucky and train with my countys top riders - yet I am still struggling to do as good as I would hope. Showjumping is a very tough sport, I hate to say it, but the wealthy do have the advantage - best horses, gear, food, stables, instructors, etc. It sucks, but it’s just the way it is.

I wish you all the best of luck and hope to see you 2016 at the Olympics!!
