Does anyone know of a good horse riding game for the PC?
19.February, 2009
For one of my girldfirend's (19) christmas presents, I want to get a horse riding game because she is always playing them online.
Does anyone know first hand of a good one I can buy for her?
As far as I know most Horse games are marketed towards young girls. I don't know who entertaining your girlfriend would find them, but here's a small list:
Equestrian Challenge: http://www.amazon.com/Red-Mile-113-Equestrian-Challenge/dp/B000JX5M74/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1196711091&sr=1-1
Championship Horse Trainer: http://www.amazon.com/eGames-Championship-Horse-Trainer/dp/B000OF8QL6/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1196711091&sr=1-3
Final Stretch Horse Racing Sim: http://www.amazon.com/Global-Star-Software-Stretch-Horse-Racing/dp/B0000AK9NY/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&s=software&qid=1196711091&sr=1-7
Those are the ones I find that seem to be geared toward someone older.
Good Luck! :o)

Best place to look for dressage or eventing school master horses?
19.February, 2009
I wonder if anyone has had good experiences with particular breeders and/or know of any "school master" horses for sale (or where to best look for such horses besides word of mouth). I am getting more involved in dressage/eventing and would like a horse that "knows it's stuff"–suitable for an beginner-intermediate rider.
If you want a "ready made" horse that is good for three day eventing you need to look in PA, MD, NY, NJ, and around that area.. Dressage you need to look at KY, Tenn. or surrounding states.
If you go to top breeders or top farms with trainers you are going to be looking at around 80k easy for something you can get on and go…
Here's the problem with that when it comes to Dressage or mannor of riding, the horse is trained in how the trainer taught the commands, not in how the rider knows how to give the commands. Everyone has there own fashion, little things they do, conformation, and riding ways and they are set in them. So if you buy a "ready made" horse, I would suggest taking lessons with the trainer of the horse to get the best performance.
OR….
Buy a horse that knows the basics and learn it together… nothing makes for a better perfect match then when you learn what your doing as one. If you ask any rider that is in the top of their game they will tell you they have rode the same horse for years and years and learned together.
Even as a trainer, when I am teaching show jumping, I approach every horse as if I have never done it before in my life either. That way I can learn how he/she does it and handles and can come to a compromise that is golden between us. You get a horse that knows already what to do, they are not going to change for you, they are stuck in their ways.
What is the official size arena for western riding avents?
18.February, 2009
Particularly for barrel racing, what is the official size arena for this?
It depends on what organization you are talking about for official, but average is 130 ft. wide by 200 ft. long. If you stick to average, it usually fits most organizations.
It's really more about barrel spacing than arena size. From the score line (starting line) to the 1st and 2nd barrels is 60 feet. The distance between the first and second barrels is 90 feet, and the distance from the 1st and 2nd barrels to the 3rd barrel is 105 feet.
breed of horse that originally did show Jumping?

What breed of horse originally did show jumping? (Like back when it was just a further development of cross country?)
Here are a few:
-Warmblood
-Thorougbred
-Selle Francais
-Irish Sport Horse
-Irish Draught
-Appendix
The list goes on…
How many horses are reccomended on 5 acres fenced in Kentucky?
18.February, 2009
I live in Kentucky and am wondering how many horses can 5 acres hold? I am not sure on the ratio between horses per acre? How many horses can stay on 5 acres? Thanks!!!
If you are planning on feeding hay in your pasture then you should be able to hold 20 horses but if you're looking for pasture that would sustain horses, then 5 acres MIGHT be enough for ONE horse. Remember that their hooves are going to turn over the turf.
You didn't say if you were going to plant the acreage. You could section it off say in 2 acre parcels and let one grow while the other is feeding your horse then rotate. You'll also need a watering system for the pasture as well and best works if set in the fencing because under ground pipes with in the ground water sprinklers don't do well with horses.
What should I buy to wear horse riding, breeches with knee boots or jodhpurs with ankle boots and chaps?
18.February, 2009
I dont ride horses very often, i dont have my own so mostly I ride at horse hire places.
Ive never bought breeches or joddies so im wondering what most people prefer. Im quite slim and i always tend to wear out patches on my butt! Painful!
I know that breeches are shorter versions of joddies and you typically wear them with higher boots. Or would jodhpurs be better?
What brands are good to get in Australia?
i would get joddies or wear underwear, shorts, and blue jeans.
what i do is wear bicycle shorts under my pants because they have padding where you need it. best investment i have ever bought.
buy bicycle shorts with the padding in the butt and crotch.
hi guys,i was wondering id anyone has some good infomation about horse care??? plz answer this question.?
18.February, 2009
hi horse lovers just wanted to know some horse care tips so does anyone no some???? i really need all the help i can get!!!!!!!!!!!!
1.Got to a riding school,NOT a pony club,a riding school, they will teach you the basics of horse riding and care.
2.There are TOO MUCH aspects of horse care to cover here,it takes years of learning before you can have a horse of your own, also, going to a rididng school lets you get to know lots of different horses so you can determine the best kind of horse for you.
3.Looking after a horse,on your own land and caring for it your self, now,I am talking about just a pony that will be ridden occasionaly and needs no extra feeding, will cost you about $7000 a year.
4.If you ride the horse often, you have to feed it more than just grass and hay and then the bill can triple,as it can if you pay for stabling or a groom.
5.Horses need to be wormed at least four times a year (every 3 months),they need dental checks every six months and every two months they need to be reshod,or if they dont have shoes, get their feet trimmed by a farrier.they need vet checks and booster shots every year and you need to clean out their paddock every DAY and they need at least 5 acres of land per horse.Get wooden post and rail fencing,it is expensive but it is the best.
6.Clean your tack (bridles, saddles, bits, girths, stirrup leathers etc;) every week with saddle soap.
7.NEVER NEVER get a horse BEFORE you have spent a few years learning about horses and their needs…unless of course someone in your family is experienced with them.
this is how I took care of my horse…………..he lived out at grass
Every day….clean paddock, give fresh water in a trough.. groom the horse, feed it a bale of hay.
Every week…….2 hour trail ride…clean tack….buy more hay -$200………disinfect grooming tools (hoof pick,body brush,rubber curry comb)…….
Every two months…..farrier check $200…..buy more tack cleaning equipment $100……..
every three months…worming $80….
every six months..dental check $250……
every year..vet check and boosters $250..
those are just the absolute basics I used to do ALOT more things that were absolutely neccsesary as well
Where is a good dressage barn in the Seattle area?
18.February, 2009
I recently moved to the Seattle area and I’m trying to find a good place to take some dressage lessons. I have no horse and not a lot of money, so I’m hoping to take a lesson or two a week on a school horse. I’m very classically trained so I hope to find a trainer with the same outlook on riding. Thanks!
Donida is great, but they are more of a 3 day eventer or jumper barn.
- Debbi Martin at Havilah Equestrian Center in Enumclaw. I havent heard much about her, but she seems to have a significant amount of experience. and the facility she is at is VERY nice. My barn used to be there, before it sold.

- Equi-Librium Equestrian, they seem like a nice facility.very showy.

- San Sebastian, havent heard anything bad about them.
http://www.sansebastianec.net/
- Bear Creek, they seem like a nice dressage facility too
http://www.bearcreekdressage.com/contact.htm
I dont much of any dressage barns because I’m a 3 day eventer and i used to ride the hunter/jumper circuit, so if you want to go with an eventing trainer, you could still learn lots from them because they are almost all arounds and need to know tons of dressage. I ride, train, and board my horse in Enumclaw, and event all over WA!!
You might need to go through a deep search to find the perfect barn, it took me 4 months, because there arent too many barns in western WA, well good ones. But just keep looking, maybe pick up so local equestrian magazines too.
good luck!
Poll? When I turn 61 should I go for that cross country motorcycle ride?
18.February, 2009
Depends. Are you driving or behind some sweaty PA boy? Forget Sturgis. Are you winding through the beautiful Ozark Mountains? Do you have room for a Pilgrim? Huhhhhhh? : )
